PEM

I often think of the photo above, because its been burnt in my brain since the 1st time I went to Melrose's Wacco and saw this amazing B&W in a book.  I always loved Man Ray's work.  This month starting June 11 the Peabody Essex Museum in Massachusetts will be featuring an amazing display of pure artistic history. From 1929 to 1932, Man Ray and Lee Miller  lived together in Paris, they really were two huge pioneers of the European Surrealism movement.  Together they have created some of the most iconic images of all time and that to me is pretty amazing.

They originally met as teacher and student, later  they became lovers. Their incredible relationship proved to have staying power and their work elevated each artist's career, not to mention they really helped  to shape the course of modern art.  Even now, the solarized technique you see below in the portrait of Ms. Miller still being used for many advertisement campaigns and digital cameras even come with this type of setting.
The exhibit features very rare vintage photographs, paintings, sculpture and drawings.  The  tale of a sweet story of  two artists' short  but intense partnership by revealing  the nature of their creative loving side and showing the world the true passion that art can bring.
